About usOgbontor Engineering Enterprise is a hardware technology enterprise and student community based at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. We train, we prototype, and we turn what works into products.
Nigeria, and indeed much of the African continent, faces a significant setback in technological development. Almost everything electronic in daily use here was designed somewhere else, for someone else, and arrives as a sealed box.
When it fails, it is replaced rather than fixed. When it doesn't suit local conditions — unstable mains, dust, heat, intermittent connectivity — it is tolerated rather than redesigned. And the engineering capacity that would let us do otherwise never gets built, because there is nowhere to learn it properly and nothing to practise on.
That is a training problem before it is an industrial one. It is the one we decided to work on.
Ogbontor is dedicated to fostering a new era of Nigerian technological innovation. We believe Nigeria possesses the inherent capacity to address its own technological challenges, rather than depending on solutions designed for other contexts.
What has been missing is not talent. It is a bench, a curriculum that goes deep enough to matter, and a room full of people working on the same problem at the same time. We assembled those three things in Nsukka, and the result is now the largest student hardware tech community in South-East Nigeria.

Designed for Nigerian power, Nigerian roads, Nigerian budgets and Nigerian users — not adapted from a product made for somewhere else.
Datasheets get read. Designs get reviewed. Claims get measured. An impressive demo that cannot be reproduced is not an achievement.
These are deliberately larger than a student club should attempt. Stating them plainly is how we keep the curriculum honest about how deep it has to go.

Ogbontor is run by one person and a community. I started it because the capacity to build hardware in Nigeria is already here — what was missing was a bench, a curriculum that goes deep enough to matter, and a room full of people working on the same problem at the same time. Everything on this site came out of that room.
